About Me

Hello, I’m Rosie

I’m a qualified Speech and Language Therapist based in Didsbury, offering specialist support for children with speech, language and communication needs. I hold a BSc in English Language and Communication, an MSc in Speech and Language Therapy, and a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. Over the past 10 years, I have worked as both an English language teacher for children and a speech and language therapist, with experience in the NHS and the British Council. I’m registered with the HCPC, a member of the RCSLT, and hold a full enhanced DBS check.

I specialise in working with primary school aged children who have language difficulties linked to autism, dyslexia, and developmental language disorder. I can also support children who may be struggling at school due to speaking English as an additional language.

What is Storytime Therapy?

Before beginning therapy, each child receives a full, comprehensive language assessment. Parents receive a written report detailing their child’s scores, highlighting where their strengths and difficulties lie. Based on the findings of this assessment, I make recommendations for home, and develop a tailor-made therapy plan for your child.

I use a range of evidence-based approaches—including, but not limited to, Colourful Semantics, The Word Aware Program and Language for thinking (more information below).

In each session, children engage with carefully curated stories that expose them to new sentence structures, grammatical tenses, and vocabulary. We then work with the story throughout the session—deepening understanding through discussion, playing vocabulary games, practising retelling from memory, and creating their own stories about a similar context.

Therapy takes place in my home in Didsbury. Parents are welcome to relax with a cup of tea while their child enjoys the session.

-For children with speech sound difficulties, I also offer targeted, intensive sessions focused specifically on speech clarity, separate from narrative-based work.

-Please note: If your child is not yet combining three word phrases, or has more complex speech sound needs, I may recommend a trusted local therapist who specialises in those areas.

Word Aware

Implementing strategies and tools to support vocabulary growth, such as word maps, semantic webs, and categorization activities. Teaching children to identify and explain word meanings, exploring nuances and relationships between words.

Language for Thinking

Using open-ended questions to encourage children to think critically about language, exploring cause and effect, predictions, emotions and implied meaning.

Colourful Semantics

Using colours to represent different parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. This visual approach can help children understand sentence structure and develop their language skills.

My Services

Initial Assessment and Report (requirement before therapy sessions) £190

I offer a full, comprehensive speech and/or language assessment. This includes:

-30 Minute Phone Consultation (free of charge). I will ask you a range of questions to get to know more about your child and determine their suitability for therapy.

-1 hour 15 minute Assessment Session. I use a range of standardised assessments to measure your child’s speaking and understanding.

-A Written Report. This report provides a comprehensive assessment of the child's performance, including a breakdown of scores and percentiles that compare their results to those of peers of the same age, as well as a written evaluation highlighting their strengths, areas of difficulty, and tailored recommendations for supporting their development at home.

Initial assessment and report is a requirement for all clients I take on, as assessment and interpretation of results will inform therapy sessions.

Individual session: £70

45 minute sessions are charged at a rate of £70 pounds. Sessions will be tailored to your child’s specific targets as outlined in their report. Parents are welcome to observe or participate in therapy sessions if they wish.

Set of 8 sessions: £60 per session

If you wish to book a block of therapy sessions, the fee is £60 per 45 minute session. Each session is tailored to your child’s specific goals, as outlined in their report.

After 16 sessions, your child will receive a free follow up assessment to review their progress!

Testimonials

Our daughter is autistic and had difficulty following instructions or retelling her day. Rosie understood her needs straight away and adapted the sessions beautifully. Using stories really clicked for her, and we’ve noticed a huge improvement at school and home.
-Rachel, parent of an 8-year-old

I would like to thank you so much for all support guidance and encouragement you have provided me. I want to tell you that you are one of the best teachers I have ever had. I am sad that I will be leaving your class but I’m so happy to have reached another English level.
