About Me
Hello, I’m Rosie
I’m a qualified Speech and Language Therapist based in Didsbury, offering specialist support for children with speech, language and communication needs. I hold a BSc in English Language and Communication, an MSc in Speech and Language Therapy, and a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. I have over 11 years’ experience in education and language development—across both the NHS and the British Council. I’m registered with the HCPC, a member of the RCSLT, and hold a full enhanced DBS check.
I specialise in working with primary school aged children who have language difficulties linked to autism, dyslexia, or developmental language disorder. I can also support children who may be struggling at school due to speaking English as an additional language.
What is Storytime Therapy?
Narratives help us make sense of the world, share our experiences, and connect with others. Research suggests that narrative skills in young children are one of the strongest predictors of later academic success (Fazio et al., 1996). They also offer a rich and meaningful context for guiding the development of vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. That’s why storytelling forms the foundation of my therapy sessions.
Before beginning therapy, I carry full, comprehensive language assessment and written report. Based on these results I make recommendations for home, and develop a tailor-made therapy plan for your child.
In each session, children engage with carefully curated stories that expose them to new sentence structures, grammatical tenses, and vocabulary. We then work with the story throughout the session—deepening understanding through discussion, playing vocabulary games, practising retelling from memory, and creating their own stories about a similar context.
I use a range of evidence-based approaches—including, but not limited to, Colourful Semantics, The Word Aware Program and Language for thinking.
-Colourful Semantics:
Using colours to represent different parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. This visual approach can help children understand sentence structure and develop their language skills.
-Word Aware:
Implementing strategies and tools to support vocabulary growth, such as word maps, semantic webs, and categorization activities. Teaching children to identify and explain word meanings, exploring nuances and relationships between words.
-Language for Thinking:
Using open-ended questions to encourage children to think critically about language, exploring cause and effect, predictions, emotions and implied meaning.
By combining my own custom-made spoken narratives and accompanying images with these approaches, all my therapy plans are tailored to address each child’s unique challenges.
Therapy takes place in my home in Didsbury. Parents are welcome to relax with a cup of tea while their child enjoys the session.
-For children with speech sound difficulties, I also offer targeted, intensive sessions focused specifically on speech clarity, separate from narrative-based work.
-Please note: If your child is not yet combining three word phrases, or has more complex speech sound needs, I may recommend a trusted local therapist who specialises in those areas.

I would like to thank you so much for all support guidance and encouragement you have provided me. I want to tell you that you are one of the best teachers I have ever had. I am sad that I will be leaving your class but I’m so happy to have reached another English level.
